The Opera

Last evening I had the chance to experience my first opera. My response? I LOVED it! I was apprehensive at first because I did not think I would understand what was going on, but fortunately, they offered a screen above the stage which included some helpful subtitles - phew. The opera was The Barber of Seville and I must admit that my recognition of the music came not from my vast knowledge of classical music, but rather, Bugs Bunny. I know, I know...

I was so impressed with the abilities of the performers. I don't know how their voices can hold up for 3 hours of almost constant singing. Even the "dialogue" was sung. It was beautiful, hilarious and well done. If you have a chance to see this performance, I highly recommend it. Here is a clip from one of the more well-known arias. Ahhh Figaro - what a character!
